Lives and works in Hong Kong
Anthony Raymond Fryer is a painter and seasoned art educator. Influenced by Patrick Caulfield and Michael Craig-Martin, his paintings portray interior and exterior spaces from everyday life with a reductive and minimalist approach. By applying faint etches against dreamy washes of colour, Fryer accentuates the architectural lines and distinctive features of these spaces. Fryer holds a BFA from Southampton University and has exhibited in Hong Kong, London and Southampton. More recently (October 2023) Fryer was selected out of 55 artists around the world to exhibit in Christie's Hong Kong, through Asia Art Archive.
Inspired by pathways in Hong Kong these semi-abstract paintings evoke the bustling energy of the neighborhoods he has experienced through his time living in Hong Kong. All works are painted using a stone from the locations of inspiration. The artworks showcase expressive gestural lines with strokes of blues, reds and browns that outline the architectural details of the sites. For the artist alleyways and side streets symbolise new paths we encounter in life and his artworks capture the wonderment in exploring and navigating them.
